Once upon a time—at The Epping Club no less, Amanda’s mother suggested she attend a charity ball with her parents. Not for destiny or romance, of course, but as a practical excuse to wear a pretty dress… and perhaps meet someone. Amanda went for the dress.
She arrived to find a ballroom filled with gracious elderly guests and not a single gentleman her age in sight. Destiny, it seemed, was taking its time.
Unbeknownst to her, Joel had been asked to step in to MC the evening as a favour to a colleague. Their paths crossed when Amanda found herself seated beside a woman whose “spirits” (and moderate slurring) rose steadily throughout the night. Upon hearing of Amanda’s interest in journalism, she vanished—returning moments later with Joel, whom she herself had only just met.
With perfect composure, Joel extended his hand and asked Amanda, “How can I help you?” Amanda, equal parts puzzled and amused, could only reply, “I have no idea.” He invited her to the balcony, where a conversation unfolded that neither expected—and, forty-five minutes later, Joel, of course just to be polite, suggested he should meet her parents.
Then came their first date. However, it seemed destiny was on hold. They agreed it was not the right time to begin a relationship; with life, health, and work demanding so much of their energy. And yet, just two weeks later, “I love you” was undeniably shared, and a relationship began.
Now, they return to The Epping Club—the place where chance became choice—now not just for the dress, but to celebrate a deep love that found its way exactly when it was meant to. Although... the wedding dress is a lovely bonus.
